Climate action – sustainable mobility solutions
We must shift towards becoming a low-carbon society. Creating cleaner, safer, more inclusive, affordable, and accessible mobility systems is crucial for sustainable mobility development in the future.
We keep people moving smarter by providing joined-up, sustainable mobility solutions. We have developed industry-leading advisory and EV capabilities and are investing in our people, infrastructure, and services to meet the low-carbon mobility challenge. Our commitment to promoting sustainable mobility extends across the value chain and the automotive industry, influencing our culture, training, performance measurement, and governance.
The transition towards low carbon mobility
Decarbonising vehicles will primarily involve replacing those that run on fossil fuels with electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel cells. This
shift will disrupt the automotive supply chain and significantly change mobility services. Manufacturers are pursuing a transition to EVs, and some major OEMs have announced that they will stop investing in new ICE platforms or end the production of ICE vehicles by 2030.
Governments and cities continue to introduce policies that encourage the decarbonisation of road transport. The ZEV mandate became law in the UK in January 2024. This mandate sets out the percentage of new zero-emission cars and vans that manufacturers will be required to produce each year up to 2030. By 2030, 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold in the UK will be zero-emission, increasing to 100% by 2035.
Implementing our climate action strategy
Our long-term climate commitment is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The pace of our plan to achieve net zero will be influenced by various factors and transition-related risks. These include overall customer sentiment regarding the suitability of alternative drive trains for their operational activities. Below, we have outlined our ambitions to meet the challenge of low-carbon mobility and the actions we are taking.
Ambition
We have invested in and developed our processes, technology, and people to ensure we have the knowledge, facilities, and capability to support our customers and fulfil our ambition of being a critical enabler in the transition towards low-carbon mobility
Action
Our purpose is ‘keeping people moving, smarter.’ The overriding intent behind our actions and continuing development is to synergise our operations, people strategy, and products to deliver on this aim and build a business and service offering fit for a low-carbon future.
Accountability
We have established strong governance and reporting processes with well-defined roles, responsibilities, and accountability to help us achieve our climate action ambitions. The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight of our climate action. The Executive Committee is accountable for delivering on our climate action-related commitments and reporting progress against metrics and targets annually.
