Engagement with Regulators & Government
A Voice for Our Customers and Industry
ZIGUP is highly active member of the UK industry body, BVRLA, with a key voice on issues around commercial vehicle regulation, including the 2022 Van Plan and 2024 launch of the ZEV Van Plan. This has helped shape government approach to infrastructure and support for energy transition in particular, representing views from our customers and the industry as a whole.
The British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (BVRLA) reinforces industry standards and regulatory compliance and is the voice of our industry. The association’s membership is responsible for one in ten vehicles on Britain’s roads, buying 50% of new vehicles including 80% of those manufactured and sold in the UK.
As a member of the BVRLA’s Commercial Vehicle Committee, and now chair, Tim Bailey (our Fleet Director) was instrumental in the development of the original Van Plan which led to several changes in Government spending and budgetary approach, including the extension and ring-fencing of the Plug-In Van Grant, saving our customers £000s over the life of each vehicle.
Using the knowledge & experience from our business and customers, Tim has a key voice within the industry body and supports interactions with government departments and public sector agencies, using evidence-based persuasive arguments to help them understand key issues and enable informed decisions, helping to advise government policy.
In February this year, the Zero Emission Van Plan 2024 was launched, in Speaker’s Court in Parliament, focusing on three key asks – fiscal support, charging infrastructure and regulatory barriers for eLCVs. These targeted asks will benefit our customers with more consistent and commercially viable vehicle costs, wider, faster & more reliable charging capability, and a greater range of eLCVs to choose from.
The launch was attended by a number of MPs & Peers including Ministers, shadow cabinet members and a Select Committee Chair. Policymakers and regulators now engage regularly with the association as it is recognised for it’s members’ impact on the economy and ability to support and guide change.
As a director of the BVRLA, Tim has pushed commercial vehicle issues to the forefront of its agenda, ensuring those policymakers, regulators and key stakeholders are aware of the most effective ways to support and drive decarbonisation, with commercial vehicles now being one of its top 3 focal points.
